Vacuum sizing equipment offers practical features to cut set-up time and increase productivity

Choice of vacuum systems

Direct vacuum systems utilize an eccentrically-mounted rotor which throws water radially, forcing air and water to flow from the vacuum tank to a drain. This system develops the high level of vacuum necessary to overcome the melt flow resistance of heavier gauge pipe and moldings. However, a relatively high level of turbulence and instability limits its use to non-critical sizing applications.

Venturi vacuum systems utilize the high velocity flow of water passing an orifice to pull water and air from the vacuum tank into a frame-mounted sump. This closed-loop system creates less turbulence and greater vacuum level stability than direct vacuum systems, allowing product sizing with greater accuracy. However, moderate vacuum levels limit their use to the sizing of smaller, lighter-gauge extrusions.
